Space Environments Polarization: Applications to Geophysics and planetary Environments
(SEPAGE)
Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy
Brussels, Belgium
12-14 October 2009
Scientific committee: H. Lamy (BIRA-IASB), M. Barthélemy (LPG), C. Simon (BIRA-IASB), J. Lilensten (LPG), Johan De Keyser (BIRA-IASB)
Light polarization is an observable that has seldom been used to characterize planetary upper atmospheres. Recent development showed that it brings new insights in geophysics and planetary environments. The goal of this workshop is to investigate the potentialities of this observable from the points of view of theoreticians, modelers and experimentalists to study upper atmospheres of the Earth and other planets.
The meeting will include plenary sessions and round tables.
Schedule:
- Day 1 (Monday 12): observations (Earth, planets, comets, exoplanets) & instrumentation (group, space).
- Day 2 (Tuesday 13): theoretical aspects of the polarization of some lines.
- Day 3 (Wednesday 14 morning): 2 successive round tables, The first one will aim at starting collaborations to write new proposals, for example to obtain fundings and build dedicated instruments, or to ask for observing time with existing facilities. The second one will be an open discussion between observers and theoreticians. What is needed by observers and what can theoreticians give in return ?
No registration fee will be charged.
